Mission Statement

AM-Tech’s mission is to use ICT to expand the capabilities and opportunities of young people in underprivileged communities of Accra, Ghana on a not-for-profit basis.

We aim to increase the number of people who have a sustainable livelihood in Ghana through providing young people with opportunities to gain ICT knowledge and skills that will increase their education and employment opportunities in the future and stop the cycle of poverty.

Our work is a partnership through which volunteers, members and supporters help to bridge the
technology gap in education between developed nations and developing nations and also within the
Ghanaian community..

What we do/objectives-

The A.M. Technology Center (AMTech) is a non-profit, non-government funded initiative affiliated
with Ananda Marga Pracharaka Samgha, a yoga and meditation society which already has several community based projects in the fields of water purification, childcare, health clinics and education. (www.amurt.net / www.anandamarga.net / www.anandamarga.org )

AMtech provides Primary and Secondary schools in the Ga West district of Accra, Ghana with access to information and communications technology on a non-commercial basis that aims to facilitate learning and increase opportunities for the future.

In a world dominated by Technological advancement and a sharp shift towards the reliance of technology
in the workplace has meant that more and more employers are looking for I.T skills as a prerequisite for employment.

Our Objectives:

  • Correct the current endowment gap by assisting schools that are devoid of financial resources to obtain ICT equipment and services.
  • Enable more children to have a broader access to learning materials and information. The targeted recipients will be empowered with greater knowledge of the world outside of Ghana.
  • Teachers will have access to better ICT training and teaching materials to enhance the classroom environment and more effectively deliver lessons.
  • Initiating and facilitating I.C.T. in the private sector education in Ghana.
  • To serve as one of the leading consultants in ICT in Education to schools in Ghana and beyond.

History- history of AM-Tech

A.M. Technology Center was founded in June 2005 by Gilbert M.K.D Nyavie (alias Gunadiish) in Accra. Gunadiish has been troubleshooting and repairing the laptops of the acaryas (yoga & meditation teachers) and those of the Ananda Marga yoga and meditation organisation on a service basis from some time
before in order to maintain the efficient running of Ananda Marga in Ghana. Whilst working on the
machine of one of the Didi’s the idea dawned on him to extend this service to the community.  Starting
on a very small scale, with the classes been informal, containing large elements of audience participation, Gunadiish offered free evening ICT lectures to senior high school graduates at the Ananda Marga Jagrti, which is also the AMURT office within the Korle Gonno Community in Accra. With the support of the Dadas, and within six months, the classes went on successfully and 15 students graduated with ICT
diplomas and are using their skills to pursue various careers using ICT media. As interest grew, so
did the need for more resources.

After the success of this program and been aware of the importance of ICT in modern education and
training systems, he designed and initiated this new project: ICT in Education for the underprivileged
Ga West private schools. The scheme was based on the scenario that many of the teaching professions
were capable of ICT expertise but lacked the appropriate training. The AM-Tech scheme is designed to identify subject-based ICT Training needs and training teachers to learn how to use ICT to enhance their
teaching skills, assist teachers to teach the children the use of ICT to facilitate learning and studying
and also train school management in the use of the ICT medium in school management.

The expansion of AM-Tech centres within underprivileged schools allows the community and
specifically young children to gain knowledge and skills which will expand their opportunities for the
future as ICT rapidly transforms the Ghanaian education, trade and industry systems.

 Who we are
